Light vs. Dark

Your favorite story is derivative of this age old tale.

Before light, there was only darkness.

Darkness only has two strategies against the light. It can hide, or it can contain it, block it, but never extinguish it.

Darkness cannot masquerade as light

One of the light’s best tricks is dressing itself up in darkness (as light can imitate darkness, but darkness cannot masquerade as light), walking amongst the dark, picking through and exposing the darkest corners, catching darkness with its guard down and exposing it to the light.

From this perspective, Bane from The Dark Knight Rises was right. Batman did adopt the dark. As that is precisely what he does. The light is justice, and he wears darkness like a cloak, so he can find the worst criminals and expose them to the police or superman (Horus the sun god) or whatever other symbol of the sun/light/good you ascribe to.
