“Hey Tim,

What’s up! I’m an aspiring writer, I stumbled on your story on Medium and I enjoyed your style. I’m curious, what are your favorite books?

Good question. I believe one’s taste in art says a lot about them. I don’t mean to imply there is good or bad taste, instead that the flavors of art that one enjoys tells you almost everything you need to know them.

Let’s run the gauntlet and handle multiple categories of creative works. These are my mount rushmore’s of their respective niche. Books are at the end.

Musical Artists

My all time favorite playlist is here, updated frequently on Apple Music

  • Tupac Shakur
  • John Mayer
  • Eminem
  • Axl Rose
  • Andre 3000
  • Jimi Hendrix (I need to add Little Wing to my playlist!)
  • Hans Zimmer
  • Michael Jackson
  • The Weeknd
  • My Bloody Valentine
  • The Neighbourhood

Movies

  • A Clockwork Orange
  • The Dark Knight
  • Fight Club
  • The Matrix
  • How To Train a Dragon
  • Empire Strikes Back
  • Interstellar
  • 8 Mile

Books

Fiction

  • East of Eden
  • A Clockwork Orange
  • Fight Club
  • Don Quixote
  • Star Wars Extended Universe: The Thrawn Trilogy (no shame in my nerd game)

Non Fiction

  • The Fifth Discipline — Peter M. Senge
  • Mastery — Robert Greene
  • The Art of Seduction — Robert Greene
  • 48 Laws of Power — Robert Greene
  • Leaves of Grass — Walt Whitman
  • Art of War — Sun Tzu

If you see a pattern, let me know if I’m missing any great works of art that you think I would enjoy. Remember, I have almost no formal education and these are the creative works that have caught my eye.
